Credit Recovery and Alternative Options
The Mat-Su Borough School District requires students to earn 25.5 credits (51 classes) to receive a high school diploma. With the increase in graduation requirements, students have no room to fail a class and still graduate on time.
Below are credit recovery options:
- ABLE program at Houston High School (for 11th and 12th grade only, pending interview)
- Other Credit Options (PE log, work experience, community service for general elective credits)
- APEX/ eDynamic Learning Online Courses (appropriate for 1 or 2 classes). See your counselor for more information.
- Summer School in MSBSD (appropriate for 1 or 2 classes). Specific summer school information will be available each year toward the end of April.
- Gradient Learning at Burchell High School (earn 2 credits per quarter, appropriate for core classes)
- Alaska Military Youth Academy, Job Corps - must be 16 or older.
- Homeschool options: Mat-Su Central, PACE, I-Grad, Raven, IDEA, NineStar, and Cyberlynx
Tutoring options at school:
- Lunch Time Learning (T-Th in an assigned classroom)
Please contact your student’s counselor to make an appointment to discuss progress, possible credit recovery resources and to make a plan for graduation. We encourage you to routinely review your student’s academic progress and attendance by checking ParentVue (go to Course View to see which classes your student still needs to complete),
attending Parent-Teacher Conferences in November and February, and corresponding with teachers regularly.
Sincerely,
